E Day!

After three successful breathing trials over the past day and a half, they decided that Pete was ready to be extubated today!  He is still very sick and still has a ways to go, but this is a definite step in the right direction!

As I write this he is extubated and doing well.  They are keeping him on an oxygen mask until he is able to maintain an O2 saturation level above 97%.  He is able to talk, but everything comes out as a hoarse whisper and a little slurred.

Thanks for all the support!

That is wonderful news Rachelle! This process is certainly slow, but there were too many days that were so uncertain. I try to understand, but certainly have no idea how frustrating this must be for Pete. And you are such an incredible person as well. I pray for your strength and patience everyday, as I imagine that this is taking a toll on you as well.

One of Pete's classmates told me over a week ago that in one of their past conversations Pete told them that he married his best friend. I think of that so often and it makes me smile. Although I don't know either one of you very well, it
is so wonderful to know that you two are such amazing people and cherish one another to the extent that you do.

I think that if I had met the two of you under any other circumstances, it still would have been evident right away the commitment and depth of the love that you share for one another. That is a beautiful thing and I admire that very much about you both. I am so happy that you have eachother; you both compliment one another so perfectly!

Tell Pete that we (clinical group & instructor) love and miss him very much! We talk about him everyday and wish nothing but the very best for him, you and all of his many wonderful family members and friends. We can't wait to see him again, back in action as the AWESOME Nurse he is training to be. Eventhough, in my opinion, he is already more experienced and professional than many of the Nurses that I have ever worked with in my career.

We are all here for you and Pete, so if there is ANYTHING that you may need, please do not hesitate to let us know:)

    Hugs & more hugs,
    Terry (& fellow classmates)

    Pete and Rachelle,

    This is great news!

Get plenty of rest and don't over do it.

    Love,
